Biography

Artist Hayley Nacey works predominantly in oil paints, creating highly detailed paintings from her home studio in Wellington.
Hayley has a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in Graphic Design and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching (Visual Arts). She worked as a secondary school Art educator for 10 years, before returning to focus on her painting practice.
Artist’s Statement
My practice captures and freezes the interplay between light and shadow in beautiful everyday moments. My works invite the viewer into peaceful interiors and ‘slice of life’ scenes in serene spaces that often invoke nostalgia and celebrate noticing the simple things. There is such beauty in the fleeting snippets of everyday life.
A fascination with light, surfaces and interiors is reflected in all my work. Ever-present, light bounces and plays, fragments and dapples, changing throughout the day and with the seasons. Join me on my journey as I chase the light and explore the shadows.
